Adult Psychotherapy

What is psychotherapy and talk therapy?

Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a psychologist. Grounded in dialogue, it provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who’s objective, neutral, and nonjudgmental and allows you understand, explore and/treat relational and mental issues.

Talk therapy, also known as psychotherapy, is what mental health professionals use to communicate with their patients. The purpose of talk therapy is to help identify issues causing emotional distress.

What is my approach and how do I work with my patients?

I see psychotherapy as a medium for providing a containing ground for people who are ready to discover one self with many different aspects. It is an area where we will both discover and learn how you are feeling inside, how it is affecting your life, what can be the roots of it and what could be the best way to handle a distressful life event. I believe providing a secure, consistent and containing environment can strengthen one’s courage to look into their feelings and thoughts.

I have been practicing psychotherapy in psychodynamic approach for many years. With it is help, I am open to discover, learn, think and accompany my patients. I also try to integrate somatic experiencing practices when body-mind work needs to be done for more coherent and holistic experience to handle a stressful event.

What is psychodynamic psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on building the client’s internal resources to be able to deal with problems going forward without the aid of the therapist. For example, a client with depression may learn how to explore how reactions to present-day circumstances may be influenced by past events.

The primary goals of psychodynamic therapy is to improve a client’s self-awareness and understanding of how the past has influenced current behavior.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is effective for a wide range of mental health symptoms, including depression, anxiety, panic and stress-related physical ailments, and the benefits of the therapy grow after treatment has ended, according to a research published by the American Psychological Association.

Psychodynamic therapy often involves free association. This is when the patient is encouraged to discuss whatever is on their mind, including the events of the week, past conflicts with others, fears and desires, dreams and nightmares, or anything they want to disclose about themselves and their experiences.

The number of sessions needed can vary from person to person, depending on their individual needs. The sessions take 50-mins.
